Applications for 2013 Scholarships NOW OPEN

The Western Australian Section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE WA) has a tradition of sponsoring a scholarship programme to support students in Australia who are specialising in fields of study that will lead to a professional career in Petroleum Engineering.

This year the Section will fund five new scholarships each worth $3,750 per year. Undergraduates in their 1st, 2nd or 3rd years will receive the scholarship for 2 years; 4th and 5th year undergraduates and post-graduate students will receive it for 1 year. The program is aimed at engineering students (in all years) pursuing a career in Petroleum Engineering. The scholarships are open to students studying in one of the eligible universities detailed below.

Eligibility

Those eligible to apply are those who are student members of the SPE currently enrolled in full time academic study by course work (i.e. not research) at one of the following institutions:

  • School of Mechanical Engineering at the University of WA
  • Petroleum Engineering Department at Curtin University of Technology
  • Australian School of Petroleum at the University of Adelaide
  • School of Petroleum Engineering at the University of New South Wales

Please note that preference will be given to those having Australian citizenship or permanent residency, however international students may apply. Previous SPE WA Scholarship winners are still eligible to apply.

Restrictions if Awarded Scholarship

  • All 1st year SPE Scholarship recipients must be enrolled in a petroleum engineering class by their second year and will receive their first payment upon enrolment.
  • The scholarship will be cancelled immediately if the student transfers out of petroleum engineering.
