These formalities each year take about 15 minutes; incorporating short reports from the past-Chair, incoming Chair, and the introduction of the incoming Board & Committees.
About the Presentation
Hydrogen is expected to play a role in a low carbon future, and Australia plans to be a major producer and exporter, but it remains to be seen if the universe’s most abundant element will be able to satisfy energy demand on a significant scale. This presentation provides an overview, examining the opportunities and constraints – from economic, technical and policy perspectives – in the coming decades. The talk will also focus on hydrogen synergies with the natural gas and LNG industries in Australia. Despite the synergies, successful development is found to depend heavily on cost-reducing technological progress and continuous policy support.
About the Speaker – Roberto F. Aguilera
Dr Roberto F. Aguilera is an Energy Economist with Curtin University and a consultant with Servipetrol Ltd, Canada. He was an SPE Distinguished Lecturer in 2018-2019 and is currently an SPE Asia Pacific Regional Technical Advisory Committee member. From 2013-2017, he was an analyst with the OPEC Secretariat, Vienna. He holds PhD and master degrees from Colorado School of Mines and a bachelor degree from the University of Calgary. His publication record comprises The Price of Oil, a 2015 book published by Cambridge University Press in English and Chinese.
