29th April 2021 SPE WA Technical Evening Meeting – ‘Woodside Sangomar Field – Probabilistic Assessment of Depletion and Overpressure and its Impact on the Drilling Sequence’
April 29 @ 4:30 pm - 7:00 pm

SPE WA is proud to present the details of our April technical evening meeting.
About the Presentation
The Sangomar Field Development, located offshore Senegal, will consist of 23 wells over stacked reservoirs, with horizontal lengths up to 1500 m. Oil production and water injection will commence during the drilling campaign. Therefore, the reservoir pressure in the wells executed post start-up may be inflated, depleted, or both, reducing the available mud window and impacting the drillability.
In this presentation, we will describe the process of identifying vulnerable wells by a combination of a deterministic borehole stability assessment of mud weight windows and a probabilistic well-by-well analysis of reservoir pressure at the time of drilling. We will introduce an innovative workflow which captures the range of subsurface uncertainties to define probabilistic risk of depletion and overpressure. The magnitude of pressure disturbance was in some scenarios significantly greater than initially anticipated.
Finally, we will show how the improved understanding of pressure depletion and inflation scenarios and mud windows was used to revise the well sequence in order to minimise borehole stability risks during the drilling campaign.
