About the Presentation
This talk will show that “Regulation” does not have to be cumbersome or dull, and that a changed perspective and improved understanding can lead to better business – and better safety and well integrity outcomes. This year Derrick will return, providing an update on what “Beyond Compliance” means, and how NOPSEMA are pursuing strategies to improve industry performance beyond simple compliance requirements. Come along and learn about:
- NOPSEMA’s perspective of our offshore industry – in a global context
- Emerging technologies and world-leading projects
- Drivers for behavioural change (within industry and the regulator itself)
- An improvement framework to achieve world class performance
- Examples of recent incidents and learning opportunities

- Engagement of international regulators to influence industry action
About the Speaker – Derrick O’Keeffe
Derrick O’Keeffe is the Head of Safety and Integrity for NOPSEMA, Australia’s independent offshore regulator.
He holds a BSc (Hons.) in Chemical Engineering and an MBA. He has 37 years’ engineering, commercial, management and Director experience in oil and gas in Australia, Iran, UAE, Bangladesh, Africa, USA and the UK. He is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, life member and past President of the Petroleum Club of Western Australia, where he contributes to short-courses on petroleum. He is a regular witness at Australian government parliamentary senate hearings and inquiries.
