Aging, but not Obsolete: Lessons in Life Extension

by Dr Kieran Chalk, Senior Consultant at Frazer-Nash Consultancy

In a climate of low CAPEX and OPEX budgets keeping existing assets operating safely and reliably is challenging but essential, requiring robust justification for any financial expenditure. This talk will examine lessons in asset integrity management and life extension from a range of industries and how they can be applied to physical asset management in the oil & gas industry. Topics covered will include the management of pipelines, electrical infrastructure and corrosion through to how engineering analysis can be effectively used to aid financial decision making.

About Dr Kieran Chalk is a Mechanical and Materials Engineer with a background in industry and academia. He has undertaken asset integrity management projects in a wide range of industries and regulatory environments across the world and is adept at applying this experience across industries. His work developing a management strategy for the wreck of the SS Richard Montgomery in the River Thames won the Institution of Engineering and Technology’s Innovation in Safety Award 2016.
