SPE Lecture: Overcoming Uncertainty in Recombination Ratios using Enhanced PVT Sampling Techniques

May 2, 2017 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Free

Good planning is necessary to develop and execute a successful sampling campaign. Well testing and clean up operations provide an ideal opportunity for harvesting data, and as such it is important to understand what sampling techniques are available, and how they can add value to your outcomes.

PVT sampling from the test separator sits common within all sampling programmes, however this comes with challenges relating to separator uncertainties, for gas condensate wells in particular. The extent of these uncertainties are dependant on many aspects, such as fluid behavior characteristics, thermodynamics, flow rates and separator design. All have an impact on separation efficiency, GOR accuracy and ultimately the recombination ratio for accurate PVT studies.

Isokinetic sampling is one such technique that has been developed to overcome these uncertainties and provide the confidence required for accurate wellstream recombination. This presentation will cover uncertainties related to conventional testing, how Isokinetic wellhead sampling can add value to exploration, appraisal and clean up projects.

Speaker: Brian Toole,  Asia Product Line Manager – Fluids, Expro

Brian Toole’s career in the Oil and Gas industry spans over 20 years. Commencing with Odfjell Well Services 1995 he utilised his professional skills in software design and electronic engineering for data acquisition systems. In 1998 he joined Weatherford in a number of technical roles including rig installations of automated tubular handling systems. Joining the Norwegian reservoir fluids Company Petrotech in 2001, he took on the role as a Field Engineer focusing on mercury analysis and metering techniques of gas condensate systems. In 2005 he became the Australian Manager of Petrotech, and progressed the business through acquisitions by Power Well Services and the Expro Group. In 2011 he became the Asia Regional Product Line Manager for Expro Fluids. Brian’s product line covers all aspects of onsite metering, sampling and analysis, offsite PVT analysis, and wet gas meter manufacture and sales.
