SPE WA Technical Luncheon – Three Deepwater Well Design Mistakes: Wellbore Stability, Differential Sticking, and Zonal Isolations. What are the issues and how do we correct for them?

September 7, 2016 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

$35.00 – $65.00

James LuiSPEWALogo

Abstract:

As the fields and developments mature for deepwater projects, water depth and complexity have increased over the past decade. Tight drilling window and tight annulus clearance have caused many unnecessary compromises for deepwater drilling. In this talk, James will present case studies on the application for addressing challenges associated with the aforementioned mistakes, their consequences, and overcoming these limitations.

 Presenter: James Liu

James Liu is the Regional Manager for K&M Technology Group covering Asia and Australia. He has more than 19 years of experience in the oil and gas industry with 6 years specializing in Extended Reach and Complex Wells. He completed his Master of Science Degree from University of Houston after obtaining his undergraduate degree from Trinity University’s Chemical Engineering program. He is highly experience in the various directional drilling segments including MWD, LWD, DD, and drilling optimization. Having held various technical and management positions, he landed on his passions for engineering and problem solving when he joined K&M Technology Group 6-1/2 years ago.
He has been involved in various aspects of Extended Reach and Complex Well engineering, including solving design issues and feasibility studies for wells “not drillable” just 10 years ago. By staying abreast of various technological advancements as well as operational techniques, he has led his team to break new grounds in drilling records. In addition to different facets of engineering, James has also enjoyed training both internally to provide quality assurance and junior advisors, and externally to clients seeking to gain knowledge for their upcoming ERD projects.

After taking on his first international assignment, he is currently living in Kuala Lumpur with his family. While trying to establish a new office there for K&M, he has added Business Development to his array of duties. He is an active member of SPE and IADD. He has presented to SPE in 2 separate occasions just this year.  In his free time he enjoys hanging out with his family, hiking, movies, traveling and meeting new people.

SPE in conjunction with our sponsors Expro and Quadrant Energy, are kindly sponsoring students to attend the monthly technical luncheons.
