Thursday the 10th of August marked the second installment of SPE Curtin Student Chapter’s Networking Sundowner. Co-hosted by SPE UWA Student Chapter and held at the Flour Factory in Perth CBD, the event was a highlight on both student chapters annual calendar of events. Approximately 120 university students from a variety of engineering disciplines, and 50 representatives from oil and gas related companies attended the night. A selection of canapes and drinks accompanied the many conversations had between eager university students and industry professionals.
Guest speaker and new SPE WA Section Chair Mitchell Sherston spoke of his experience within the oil & gas industry and how pleasing it was to see the two WA student chapters organise a successful event like the sundowner. The informal nature of the evening was successful in breaking down the barrier between students and industry professionals, leading to many interesting conversations taking place. Events like the sundowner and “A Night In Industry” which was held in March this year, are an important initiative as they continue to bridge the gap between students and professionals.
