Tech 101 Series: Well Testing — Automation on Surface Well Testing and the impact on the reservoir performance
- This event has passed.

Synopsis
The SPE Young Professionals Tech101 series is an event primarily targeted at entry to mid-level engineers within the oil and gas community, to provide “101” level education on topics across the industry. Professionals of all experience levels are open to come, but keep in mind materials presented are catered to young professionals.
This event is free to sign up for members and students.
Abstract
Digitalization and automation are transforming the way well testing data is acquired, monitored, and interpreted. This presentation introduces the fundamentals of well testing and focuses on how automated well testing solutions, such as FloConnect, enhance data quality and directly impact reservoir performance evaluation.
The session will begin with an overview of traditional well testing objectives. It will then demonstrate how automation packages enable real-time data acquisition, remote monitoring, and improved control of surface well testing equipment.
Through operational examples, the presentation will highlight how higher-frequency, higher-quality data improves pressure interpretation, reduces uncertainty in reservoir properties, and supports faster, more informed reservoir management decisions. The impact of automation on test efficiency, safety, and repeatability will also be discussed, along with its role in minimizing operational variability that can mask true reservoir behavior.
This presentation is designed for engineers and geoscientists seeking a practical understanding of how well testing automation bridges operations and reservoir performance.
