About the Presentation:
Over the past few years, AI & Robotics technology has been developed at a rapid pace that robots have become far more diverse, smarter and are being used in ways that we would not have dreamt possible a few years ago.
In keeping with modern trends, PTTEP, a National Exploration and Production Company of Thailand, has pioneered the incorporation of AI & Robotic technology into its operations. From conception to prototype field trials and further to commercialization, PTTEP has combined various approaches to carry this initiative through to practical applications.
Originated back in 2013 as a company Robot club, AI & Robotics Ventures (ARV), a subsidiary of PTTEP, was established in 2018 with a mission to become an innovation platform to leverage cutting-edge AI and & Robotics technologies to create simplified solutions to business challenges in E&P and non-E&P industry covering air, land, and sea applications.
An evolution of two distinct robotic systems that have been developed into working prototypes that address E&P requirements; a Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) and the Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) to service facilities in areas that are considered high-risk and high-cost have demonstrated promising benefits in adopting such technologies into our operations. Furthermore, connecting ARV capability and experiences with PTTEP’s operational requirements will result in numbers of projects, soon to be progressively field trial and become fruition not only to our future operations, but also to the E&P industry.
About the Speakers
Dr. Thana Slanvetpan currently serves as a Vice President for PTTEP and seconded to PTTEP’s spin-off technology company “AI & Robotics Ventures” as a General Manager (GM). His focus is on AI & Robotics to leverage cutting-edge AI & Robotics technology to create smart and intelligent solutions to business challenges.
Since joining PTTEP in 2005, Thana has held several technical and managerial positions and worked on a number of projects & assignments. These include positions in the fields of project management, engineering & construction, new ventures, technology development, and maintenance & inspection. He also led the development of company-wide Engineering Specification (PEGS), Project Realization Process (PREP), and Technology Development Process (TDP), all serves as guiding governance for PTTEP engineering design, capital project management, and technology projects, respectively.
Thana earned his BSc in Chemical Engineering from Chulalongkorn University. He also holds MSc and Ph.D. in the same field from New Jersey Institute of Technology. His Ph.D. dissertation was an application of artificial neural networks for advanced process control of a combustion system.
