Digital Twins and Hydrogen in Gas Distribution Systems
July 20, 2021 @ 4:45 pm - 6:45 pm
$10.00 – $15.00
Society of Petroleum Engineers Western Australia is pleased to announce the July Facilities Group Technical Event: “Digital Twins and Hydrogen in Gas Distribution Systems” lead by James Holbeach, Global Director of Energy and Flow Assurance, from Wood.
About the Presentation
It is simple right? Just inject a bit of hydrogen into the natural gas pipeline, make sure the gas meets spec, and you can transport hydrogen in the natural gas grid. Life was not meant to be simple, and unfortunately, neither is hydrogen transport in natural gas. While it looks deceptively simple it can actually be quite complex and standard engineering design practices need to be reconsidered. In this talk, we will go through some design considerations for blending hydrogen in natural gas, some analogous real-world cases studies from operations, and some examples of the complexities involved with hydrogen-enriched natural gas from integrity issues to stability.
About the Speaker – James Holbeach
Dr Holbeach has a Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical), a Bachelor of Science (Physics) and was awarded his PhD from the University of Melbourne, in Chemical Engineering through CFD and experimental research in the multiphase fluid mechanics area. James has over 20 years of industry experience in management, strategy, automation and control and complex dynamic process engineering across multiple industry sectors. He has managed and provided consultancy support to some of the largest energy and resource projects around the world and has worked at all stages of project execution for service companies and operators alike.
James is Global Director – Energy and Flow Assurance for Wood. In this role, he has technical oversight of Wood’s suite of world-leading intelligent operations technologies (including digital twins, operator training simulators, environmental and emissions monitoring/optimisation technologies and others) and consultancy services. Wood comprises over 45,000 employees globally and is one of the largest independent engineering and consultancy companies in the world.
