About the Presentation: A blockchain provides an immutable record of transactions performed across a network without the need to rely on an intermediary. While this seems a fairly benign function, blockchain technologies have the potential to fundamentally change the structure of the industry, impacting traditional value chains and the complex supply chains that serve them.
The transactional capabilities of this group of technologies enables the coordination of loosely coupled assets, companies and individuals in order to achieve collective goals. Effective industrial blockchains enable industry and cross industry collaboration, resource sharing and optimization and ultimately, industrial and supply chain automation. Productivity is the ultimate beneficiary.
In this session, Rowan will provide an overview of this group of technologies, share why he believes the hype is worth the hype, and discuss how blockchain technology may feasibly be applied to oil and gas industry.
About Rowan:
Rowan Fenn is a scientist by vocation and by nature. He found curiosity to be a cure for his boredom, but alas found no cure for his curiosity. Rowan has a keen interest in knowing and the possible both of which feed his curiosity. He is the co-founder of rise-x.io, an industrial blockchain company developing a digital marketplace for industrial products and services.
Prior to founding rise-x.io, Rowan spent 10 years working with Accenture in their Energy Strategy practice. He focused on the upstream oil and gas industry where he had the privilege of working with some of the world’s largest and most admired energy companies across the hydrocarbon value chain and the asset lifecycle, and with many different people and cultures in locations across the globe.
Originally from South Africa, Rowan lives in Perth with his Wife and two (Australian) sons. He holds a B.Sc in Biochemistry and Microbiology, a Postgraduate degree in Biotechnology, and is a CIMA certified business accountant (Cert BA).
