SPE WA Lecture: Data Science and Machine Learning for Petroleum Engineers
September 6, 2016 @ 4:45 pm - 6:00 pm
FreeThere has been an explosion of interest in big data, data science and machine learning within the oil & gas industry in recent years. While companies have invested heavily in R&D in these areas, petroleum and reservoir engineers on the front-lines of operating assets have so far seen very little in the way of practical tools to assist with their work. In this lecture, https://www.spe-wa.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Nopsema2-1.png will provide subsurface engineers with an overview of these fields, explain what engineering problems they best address and, using examples, demonstrate how these technologies can be applied to real world problems.
Speaker: https://www.spe-wa.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Nopsema2-1.png Smart
https://www.spe-wa.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Nopsema2-1.png Smart is a leading technology advisor to subsurface engineering teams in the oil & gas industry. Driven by a relentless passion to help engineers get what they really want, https://www.spe-wa.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Nopsema2-1.png has led and advised on the technical development of major digital oilfield solutions on some of the largest development projects in the world. From these experiences he deeply believes that successful innovation in Digital Oilfields can be achieved without mega-budgets and should be driven, not by IT project management, but by the grass-roots needs of real engineers facing real problems.
