SPE WA Feb ’18 Technical Luncheon – Digital DROPs

SPE WA are opening up 2018 with a safety related presentation by Lloyd’s Register –

Digital (Dropped Object Survey) DROPs and the red/risk zone; the next evolution to enhance rig safety.

Dropped objects have the third highest work related fatality rate in the industry. Lloyd’s Register has a strong history of industry experience and capability in drilling and Dropped Object Survey (DROPs) audits in both onshore and offshore environments and are now evolving DROPS to Industry 4.0 expectations by combining it with Red/Risk zones and adding digital capabilities.

This proposed end-to-end solution will increase safety, awareness and productivity in high risk environments through technologies such as machine learning, haptic feedback and predictive analytics to assist site managers and heavy machinery operators, and to warn users who are entering a risk zone.

Thomas Smart has been actively involved with digital projects for over 15 years and has a passion for efficiency and innovation. Thomas has exited a company he built in Europe, worked with global banks, major advertising agencies, as well as tech and medical start-ups. He joined Lloyds Register in Feb 2017 to create and lead a new Singapore based digital innovation team. The strength of this team is that it combines digital professionals and industry veterans to ensure that all ideas, technologies, and software are not only fit for purpose but best in class for the industries we operate in.
