By: Olaf Rutgrink Senior Engineer from AMOG Consulting
Abstract: AMOG was tasked with developing a long-term fix for some localised cases of severe hull pitting corrosion on an FPSO structure that had resulted in through holes in the hull. The challenge was to develop a repair that could be implemented whilst the FPSO remained on station and producing. Consideration had to be given to the strength, buckling and fatigue capacity of the repair as well as to the limitations and constraints of the repair location. A repair solution and drawings were provided and forwarded onto ABS for class approval. Subsequently a cofferdam structure was designed and installation support provided for undertaking the underwater hull repairs.
