SPE WA Facility & Digital Event
Beyond Blueprints – 3D Visualisation Toolkit Enhances Project Value, Safety, and Understanding
Date: Wednesday, 3rd of Sept, 2024
Time: 5:00 pm – 7:30 pm (Australia/Perth time)
Location: Technip Energies office, 16th floor, 1 Williams Street, Perth WA 6000
On the evening of Wednesday, September 3rd, the Technip Energies office in Perth played host to an inspiring SPE WA Facility & Digital Group event, titled Beyond Blueprints – the 3D Visualisation Toolkit to Enhance Project Value, Safety, and Understanding. This collaboration between Technip Energies (Genesis) and Airscope brought together leading professionals from across the energy industry for an exclusive showcase of cutting-edge 3D technology.

An Unforgettable Evening
As the sun set over the Swan River, attendees enjoyed panoramic views of Perth’s CBD from the 16th floor, while networking over complimentary drinks and food provided by Airscope. The event drew an impressive range of participants, with representatives from Inpex, Wood, Kongsberg, UWA, Curtin University, Genesis, Airscope, and Timor-Leste, along with members of the SPE Committee.
After Mark Williams welcomed all the participants, the event was hosted by SPE WA Facility & Digital Group Co-Chair Xipo Zhang and committee member Siddharth Setia, setting the stage for an insightful and immersive experience.
The Power of 3D Technology in Energy
Jurien Broughton, a seasoned expert with over 14 years of experience in 3D animation, visualisation, and real-time simulation, was the first to present. His talk delved into the transformative power of 3D technology for the energy industry, highlighting its diverse applications in everything from business development to QHSES inductions. Broughton demonstrated the potential of these digital tools to provide a higher level of project understanding, safety assurance, and overall confidence.
One of the standout moments of Broughton’s presentation was his demonstration of large facility components passing through platform gaps in a 3D planning scenario. He also showcased 3D-printed physical components, offering participants a tangible glimpse into the future of project visualisation.
Digital Twins in Action
Next, Luke Klingenberg, an expert in the commercialisation of digitisation solutions, took the stage to share his insights. Klingenberg’s live demonstration of Airscope’s high-resolution Digital Twin technology was nothing short of remarkable. Using cloud-based multiple TB data storage, participants were able to see how detailed facility models could be accessed remotely and securely, providing real-world insights into assets without the need for physical inspections.
The photorealistic Digital Twins, created through advanced laser scanning and photogrammetry, offer an engineering-grade accuracy of less than 2mm. These models are more than just visual representations – they serve as critical tools for managing operations, enhancing safety, and reducing costs.
A Buzz of Enthusiasm and Engagement
The presentations sparked lively discussions among attendees, many of whom were eager to explore the technology’s applications within their own operations. Broughton and Klingenberg fielded numerous questions, underscoring the strong interest in 3D visualisation technology.
The excitement generated by the event has left attendees eagerly awaiting the next SPE WA Facility & Digital Group session, set for October 2nd, titled Surface Facilities – The Forgotten Member in Early Field Development Planning.
This event was a testament to the immense potential of digital innovation in shaping the future of the energy industry. Keep an eye out for future collaborations between SPE WA and leading industry experts as they continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible.
