Perth, Australia – On October 28, 2024, SPE West Australia’s Facility & Digital Group held an engaging and insightful event at RIFF Perth, uniting industry experts, academics, and students to explore advancements in digital transformation and asset management within the oil and gas sector.

The event commenced with a warm welcome from Co-Chair Xipo Zhang, who acknowledged the traditional custodians of the land and introduced the distinguished speakers.

Keynote Speaker: Gaojing (Melody) Cao, SLB, SPE Distinguished Lecturer

Gaojing (Melody) Cao, an esteemed leader in the industry, delivered a thought-provoking presentation titled “The Forgotten Member in Early Field Development Planning.” She highlighted the crucial role of surface facilities in field development and asset management lifecycles, underscoring the risks of overlooking these elements in early project planning and advocating for a more integrated approach to development.

Industry Expert: Siddharth Setia, Kongsberg Digital

Siddharth Setia, General Manager for APAC – Digital Energy at Kongsberg Digital, captivated the audience with his presentation on “Digital Asset & Physical Twin: A Dialogue on the Future of Digitally Born, Future-Fit Assets.” Setia opened his talk with thought-provoking questions about AI, prompting the audience to consider whether artificial intelligence is a blessing or a threat to jobs and workflows. Notably, this was the first time in Australia that Kongsberg demonstrated its generative AI capabilities within its Kognitwin platform.

In his presentation, Setia discussed the latest developments in Kongsberg’s digital twin technology and its role in supporting clients through digital transformation. He illustrated how digital twins can address critical challenges like remote operations, workforce optimization, and risk mitigation.

The event attracted significant interest from attendees representing companies and organizations like CNOOC, Genesis, Kongsberg, Wood, Royal Mech Group, as well as university professors and students. The Q&A session sparked meaningful discussion, with attendees raising insightful questions that deepened the dialogue around digital innovation in the industry.
