SPE WA and PESA Joint Technical Evening Meeting (SOLD OUT!)

March 17, 2022 @ 4:45 pm - 8:00 pm

$30.00 – $50.00

Society of Petroleum Engineers Western Australia is proud to present the details of our March Technical Evening Meeting as a joint event in collaboration with the Petroleum Exploration Society of Australia (PESA).

Waitsia Gas Field: A Play Opening Story

The discovery of the Waitsia Gas Field in 2014, the largest onshore gas discovery in Australia in over 40 years, opened up the Early Permian Kingia play for the Northern Perth Basin. Now at the cusp of a development drilling campaign set to deliver 250TJ/day through the new gas processing facility, this talk chronicles the journey of discovery and appraisal to full field development from the perspective of one geologist who was there from the beginning.

About the Speaker – Roger Xiang

Roger Xiang is a Senior Geologist with Mitsui E&P Australia, with over 15 years’ experience in various geoscience roles. His current professional focus is in appraisal and development planning, operations and management of post well analytical programs. Roger obtained a B.Sc in Science with first class Honours in Geology, and a B.A. in International Relations from the University of New South Wales. He is a member of PESA and SPE.

The Beharra Springs Deep discovery and future potential in the Perth Basin

Following the discovery of the prolific Waitsia Gas Field and the West Erregulla-2 discovery, Beharra Springs Deep 1 was another deep pool test targeting the Kingia formation below an existing gas field. The result confirmed the extension of the Kingia play further south in the basin and de-risked nearfield Kingia prospectivity. This talk summarises the Beharra Springs Deep 1 well result and offers an insight into the remaining Kingia prospectivity in the Mitsui and Beach acreage within the Perth Basin.

About the Speaker – Jordan Sheehan

Jordan Sheehan is a Senior Geologist with Beach Energy, with over 8 years of experience working across various geoscience roles. His current responsibilities include exploration and appraisal planning, and well operations in the Perth Basin. Jordan obtained a Bachelor of Science at the University of Adelaide and Honours in Geology and Geophysics at the Australian School of Petroleum. He is a member of PESA and SPE.
