SPE GAIA: THE IMPACT OF THE ENERGY TRANSITION ON WATER RESOURCES: THE CASE OF GREEN HYDROGEN

February 13 @ 11:45 am - 2:00 pm

$20.00 – $30.00

SPE WA GAIA is proud to present our February 2024 Sustainability Energy Series Lunch Time Technical Meeting.

About the Presentation

The energy transition necessitates hydrogen generation to meet current energy needs. Low-carbon hydrogen (green hydrogen from renewable energy, and blue hydrogen from gas with CO2 removal and storage) is touted as a replacement, with most authors recognising the ‘green’ credentials of hydrogen. However, as this seminar examines, the impact of hydrogen generation on water resources in the driest inhabited country on Earth, Australia, has the potential to be devastating. This seminar examines the water use for hydrogen, the laws regulating water at present, and the deficiencies in such water regulation

About the Speaker

Professor Tina Soliman Hunter is the Professor of Energy and Resources Law at Macquarie University, and the Director of the Centre for Energy and Natural Resources Innovation and Transformation (CENRIT) at Macquarie. She teaches and researches in offshore energy law (both hydrocarbons and renewables), infrastructure decommissioning, energy installations, facility repurposing, offshore CCS, Arctic resources law and policy, and energy law. Much of her research is multidisciplinary in nature, and includes working with engineers, geologists, and political scientists.  She holds several visiting professor positions and is a member of the Educational Board of the Association of International Energy Negotiators (AIEN), a Board member of the Aberdeen chapter of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), and an editor of the Journal of International Petroleum Technology.
