SPE WA August ’18 Technical Luncheon: Evolution of extended reach drilling in the Wandoo field; 2008 – 2018

$30.00 – $60.00The presentation will provide a case history example from the Wandoo Field demonstrating how the operator was able to expand the existing drilling and completion envelope in this mature offshore field to provide a cost-effective means of accessing the remaining attic and undrained oil in a very shallow reservoir. The presentation will highlight the evolutionary process applied to the application of engineering, new technology, extended reach drilling practices, complex completions and execution support at the rig site, to enable the operator to extend the life of this mature asset.

Nick is the General Manager of Well Engineering and Construction at Beach Energy and for the 11 years leading up to his recent move to Beach he was Well Construction Manager for Vermilion Oil and Gas Australia. He is a mechanical engineer who has spent about 35 years in engineering and operational roles in the well construction industry working for a range of both large and small operators in Australia, Asia, Europe and North Africa. Nick is a chartered professional engineer registered in both mechanical and petroleum engineering under Engineers Australia, he is a member of SPE and he is co-chair of the APPEA Drilling Industry Steering Committee and he was on the DrillSafe Forum management committee from 2003 until his move to Adelaide with Beach.
